Remove the data cap policy in Comcast Xfinity service
Remove the data cap policy in Comcast Xfinity service
Why this petition matters
The Problem
The data cap policy in Comcast's Xfinity service is anti-consumer and exploitative. The policy is described as allocating a 1TB (1024 GB) of data transfer per plan, with additional charges for every 50GB of usage over the cap, up to $200 per month.
They claim you can have unlimited data if you use their own modem for an additional $15 a month, however this can make you potentially liable for network traffic on the secondary network that is available to all other Xfinity customers that cannot be disabled on Comcast hardware.
Moreover, the Comcast hardware itself is often inferior to other products on the market, and cannot meet the needs of every customer.
The Solution
The solution to this problem is to drop the data cap policy as it currently stands, and to allow paying customers to download at will without fear of additional charges. Comcast should be transparent about network usage and communicate when service throttling is necessary to accommodate all customers.
The Alternative
If Comcast refuses to drop the data cap policy, competitors should be invited into areas where Comcast currently holds a monopoly of service.
